Overview

Touro University's New York School of Career & Applied Studies (NYSCAS) is hiring an open rank faculty at the rank of Instructor/Assistant/Associate/or Full Professor of Nursing.

 

This role is responsible for providing ongoing curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of classroom and clinical instruction, participation in student advising, and registration. This role also requires full and active participation in the NYSCAS AAS Nursing Program committees to assist in the continued evolution is an integral part of the position.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Faculty members are expected to demonstrate the highest level of professional integrity at all times and demonstrate a commitment to professional nursing.
  2. Faculty members are expected to have a frequent and active presence on campus, be available for counseling and advising students, and participate in the activities that promote interaction between student and the academic environment.
  3. Faculty members must meet the assigned course load and contact hours assigned by the Director of the Program each semester/year. They are expected to be on campus at least three full days per week.
  4. Attendance at faculty meetings, college and departmental functions, and informational sessions is mandatory.
  5. Punctuality and attendance is mandatory to meet all assigned teaching commitments. It is a faculty member’s obligation and responsibility to make up any classes/clinical missed.
  6. Faculty members are required to have posted office hours when they can be available for all students if need be. The minimum hours should be at least two hours per week. They should be available for appointments outside their office hours if necessary.
  7. A faculty member is responsible for informing their students of mid-term and end-term progress in advisement meetings.
  8. Administrative and Clerical Requirements:
    1. A course outline (syllabus) for every course must be filed by a faculty member with the Director. It should include detailed objectives, main topics of study, requirements and assignments, test dates, and criteria used to evaluate a student’s performance. This should be distributed at the beginning of every semester.
    2. Rosters provided by the Office of the Registrar should be carefully reviewed by the faculty member and all discrepancies reported.
    3. Faculty members must complete all attendance rosters sent out by the Registrar and verify the attendance of ALL students.
    4. A faculty member is responsible for submitting all final grades to the Registrar in a timely manner.
  9. Faculty members acting as Course Coordinators for courses that have a clinical laboratory are responsible for the management of that course. They are responsible for the planning of the curriculum, development of the syllabus, distribution of the syllabus to all clinical instructors, the development of tests, scheduling of class and clinical sessions, correspondence with the clinical instructors, and correspondence with the clinical facilities in their courses.
  10. Faculty members are responsible for participating in committees, including but not limited to, the preparation, writing, and editing of Accreditation reports, candidacy drafts and self study reports to the Accreditors and the State.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • Doctorate in Nursing or related field with a graduate degree in nursing.
  • A minimum of a MS/MA in Nursing from an accredited institution for candidates to be appointed at rank of Instructor.
  • At least five years practice experience as a Registered Nurse with clinical expertise in med-surg.
  • At least two years as a faculty member in a professional nursing education program with knowledge of accreditation requirements.

Certifications

  • Must hold an unencumbered NY State Professional RN license.
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Health Provider.
  • Certified Nurse Education certification. Must hold an unencumbered NY State Professional RN license.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • The candidate should be self directed and organized.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the internet.
  • Employee is responsible for professional development at conferences, seminars, and meetings. (Touro does reimburse a certain amount every year for continuing education. Refer questions to the Director.)

Hours/ Travel

  • Occasional evenings for Information Sessions
  • Occasional local travel for training sessions/meetings

Physical Demands

  • Employees in this position must have the ability to: 
    • Sit and stand for extended periods of time.
    • Enter data into a computer terminal, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.
    • See and read a computer screen, smart boards, and printed matter with or without vision aids.
    • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
    • Speak so that others may understand at normal levels.
    • Stand, walk, and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift up to 5 lbs.
  • This position requires hearing and visual acuity as well as manual dexterity.

 

Maximum Salary

USD $110,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $90,000.00/Yr.
