Overview

The Department of Basic Biomedical Science at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) seeks to fill a 12-month, full-time faculty position in General and Systemic Pathology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level at its Harlem NY campus.

Responsibilities

  • Candidates must be committed to teaching, scholarship, and service, in line with TouroCOM’s mission statement.
  • Faculty will participate in course planning, execution, delivery, and student assessment in the 1st year General Pathology course and the 2nd year Systemic Pathology course. May also include cross-coverage teaching in other Basic Science courses as needed.
  • Our faculty teach using a combination of live and recorded sessions applied in the flipped classroom format. Responsibilities include developing and recording video lectures in our professional media studio as well as facilitating weekly live discussion sessions with students.
  • Faculty will collaborate with faculty at the Middletown and Montana campus locations in the development, organization, and delivery of the Pathology curriculum.
  • Additional duties include contributions to institutional and/or departmental governance and service. Service to the school includes conducting student admissions interviews, serving as student advisor and participating on the administrative committees of the college.
  • Faculty is expected to engage in scholarly research in areas of biomedical science, medical education, and/or community-oriented research.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Pathology or related discipline required.
  • Experience teaching in the undergraduate medical education setting
  • Those with a background in Immunology and Infectious Disease are encouraged to apply The ideal candidate will be proficient in the following areas: teaching, relevant content expertise, communication and interpersonal skills, research techniques, instructional design, content delivery, course assessment, student evaluation, working collegially with diverse teams and interdisciplinary partnerships, enthusiasm and motivation to contribute to the growth and development of the basic science department.
  • Basic computer skills supporting the proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite, software used to prepare and administer exams electronically, and learning management systems
  • Understanding and ability to utilize of audio-visual and assessment equipment (e.g., Zoom & iClickers)

Physical Demands

  • Extensive use of computers
  • Must be able to lift up 5 lbs.

Travel

  • Infrequent travel to branch campus locations in Middletown and Montana.
  • Travel to professional academic conferences, as approved by the Department Chair.

Maximum Salary

USD $105,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $84,000.00/Yr.
