Overview

The Program Coordinator of Career & Residency advisement will coordinate career counseling and residency advisement initiatives for students at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Student Coordinator will be responsible for providing advisement resources, residency application guidance, and relevant programming to students in years one through four.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Survey distribution and data collection
  • Introduce year one students to resources that will assist in determining their specialty of choice.
  • Program topics include: Introduction to Careers in Medicine (CiM), Introduction to building Curriculum Vitae (CV), How to Choose a Specialty
  • Assist year two students with the exploration of medical specialties and early introduction to residency applications. Program topics include: Tips and Strategies for Specialty Exploration, Networking Within Your Field of Interest (alumni, clinical faculty), Introduction to the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • Assist year three students with the practical requirements of building a residency application; work with students to advise and gather the application items. Program topics include: Exploring Specialties While on Clerkship Rotations, Preparing Applications, ERAS, and the NRMP, Selecting & Committing to a Specialty, Understanding the Main, San Francisco, Urology and Military Matches, Planning Parallel Applications, Researching Residency Programs & Utilizing NRMP Charting Outcomes Interactive Tools
  • Provide consistent support to year four students that proactively prepares them with guidance needed throughout the match. Program topics include: Conquering the Match, Introduction to Local Residency Programs, Utilizing NRMP Charting Outcomes Interactive Tools, Personal Statement Overview, Mock Interview Practice (Utilizing Big Interview), Rank Order Lists and the SOAP Preparation

Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • Bachelor of Arts required.
  • At least 5 years of related experience

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Overall business acumen, ethical decision making, and relationship management skills preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and work well with other co-workers and students.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, & Outlook

  • As necessary.

Maximum Salary

USD $60,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $48,000.00/Yr.
