Overview

Directly reporting to the Director of Clinical Education, the Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) and Clinic Directors at the Touro College of Dental Medicine will have the responsibility to/for:

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and guide student doctor/patient interaction and assist in transition to clinical practice
  • Patient assignments or redistribution to student doctors based on needs
  • Guidance and direction in care of patients by monitoring treatment planning, progress, and performance
  • Model and advise students on professionalism and practice management techniques
  • Assist the Patient Care Coordinator in solving patient related problems
  • Review each student’s performance related to:
    • Each student’s practice and patient resourceso
    • Each student’s individual and group progress
    • Assisting student establish and reach patient treatment goals
    • Determination of individual student needs and related time utilization
  • Report instances of misconduct to the Director of Clinical Education
  • Ensure adequate clinical coverage by approving faculty time away
  • Ensure calibration of clinical faculty
  • Complete Quarterly Reviews of student activity
  • Maintain records on the student’s development toward competency
  • Periodic meetings with other CPL’s and Clinic Directors

Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • Required qualifications include a D.D.S./DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent, Certificate of training from an ADA-accredited AEGD or GPR program, and/or other advanced degrees and previous teaching experience.
  • The applicant must be eligible for licensure in New York State.
  • A track record of scholarly activity and outstanding patient care is highly desirable, as well as demonstration of or likely commitment to diversity-related teaching/research/service.
  • Engagement and familiarity in curriculum development and digital dentistry technology and experience in faculty calibration is desirable but not required.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various education, research, and service cultural communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.
