Overview

Directly reporting to the assigned Clinical Practice Leader (CPL), the Assistant Clinical Practice Leader (ACPL) at the Touro College of Dental Medicine’s clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico will have the responsibility of providing support to the Clinical Practice Leader as it pertains to day-to-day operations of the clinic and student advising/support.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide primary advisory role to the D3 and D4 students.
  • Initiate and guide student doctor/patient interaction and assist in transition to clinical practice.
  • Assist in patient assignments or redistribution to student doctors based on needs.
  • Provide guidance and direction in care of patients by monitoring treatment planning, progress, and performance.
  • Model and advise students on professionalism and practice management techniques.
  • Assist the Patient Care Coordinator in solving patient related problems.
  • Review each student’s performance related to:
    • Dental practice and patient resources.
    • Professional progress (individual and group).
    • Patient treatment goals (establishing goals & reaching those goals).
    • Individual student needs and related time utilization.
  • Report instances of misconduct to the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Ensure adequate clinical coverage by approving faculty time away when the CPL is unavailable.
  • Ensure calibration of clinical faculty.
  • Complete Quarterly Reviews of student activity.
  • Maintain records on the student’s development toward competency.
  • Periodic meetings with other CPL’s, ACPL’s and Clinic Directors.
  • Miscellaneous tasks and duties may be requested by assigned Clinical Practice Leader or leadership of TCDM.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • A D.D.S./DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent and previous teaching experience.
  • A track record of scholarly activity and outstanding patient care is highly desirable, as well as demonstration of or likely commitment to diversity-related teaching/research/service.
  • Engagement and familiarity in curriculum development and digital dentistry technology and experience in faculty calibration is desirable but not required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain and uphold an educational/clinical environment that promotes collegiality and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.

The applicant must be eligible for licensure in the state of New Mexico.
