Overview

Under the supervision of the Executive Assistant Dean, The Director of the Clinical Business Office is accountable for the end-to-end revenue cycle management and directs and coordinates the functions of Touro Dental Health’s Business Office at their clinical site in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Director of Clinic Business Office will monitor cash flow and ensure the production and presentation of detailed billing activity reports. This position is tasked to maintain revenue cycle best practices based on industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the operations of the Touro Dental Health Billing department, encompassing ICD-10, CDT and CPT coding, charge entry, claims submissions, payment posting, accounts receivable follow-up, working denials, missing charges, and reimbursement management.
  • Responsible for developing training and communications related to all policy and procedures for revenue cycle processes to ensure compliance and accuracy
  • Collaborates with other departments to develop policy/ procedure for setting of patient fees, the collection of those fees, and the distribution of discounts to those fees.
  • Analyzing additional patient information to document, validate and process claims.
  • Supervises billing office personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Prepares and analyzes statistical data identifying Key Performance Indicators. These Key Performance Indicators (KPI) include but are not limited to areas related to: cost to collect, aged A/R by Payer, Days in A/R, Collection vs. Net Revenue with ongoing improvement to key performance indications.
  • Measures and monitors performance impacts through quantitative and qualitative data analysis as directed.
  • Audits current procedures to monitor and improve efficiency of billing and collections operations.
  • Forecasts revenue projections based on billable services, and payer reimbursements. Ensures upload of quarterly and annual payer fee schedules and charge master to the PM system.
  • Supervises Insurance credentialing of all providers
  • Strong working knowledge of Accrual Accounting business principles, revenue cycle management, applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, all aspects of third-party reimbursement policies and practices, and knowledge of Current ADA, CPT & ICD-10 coding.
  • Be responsible for resolving patient billing disputes and issues.
  • Performs other miscellaneous Ad-Hoc duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, business administration or related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in accrual accounting of a large health system or dental facility, with an in-depth understanding of billing rules and regulations required.
  • Three (3) years of people management experience required.
  • Certified Coder is a plus.
  • Experience with systems integration is preferred.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Knowledge of business management and basic accounting principles to direct the billing and coding office required.
  • Fluent in English, Spanish speaking a plus.
  • Ability to positively and proactively handle patient financial concerns and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Accurate data entry skills; experience with AxiUm computer program entry is desirable.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).
  • Proactive communication skills, both written and verbal, utilizing tact and diplomacy.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and professionalism in communications and demeanor.
  • Effective organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to take direction, assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands to help the dental students and faculty on a daily basis.
  • Adherence to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines with regards to patient’s records.
