Overview

The Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine’s campus in Middletown, N.Y. has an opening for a part-time Physician Faculty in the Department of Primary Care.

 

Candidates must be committed to teaching, scholarship and service, in line with TouroCOM’s mission statement, in addition to possessing strong communication skills.

 

Responsibilities include direct and video based didactic and clinical skills teaching, administration, training and assessment of students, adjunct faculty and standardized patients.

Responsibilities

1. Participate in course planning, execution, delivery and student assessment in the Clinical Systems (CS), Physical Diagnosis(PD), Early Clinical Experience (ECE) and Medical Simulation(MS) courses as applicable. Direct teaching (classroom, lab, skills lab, small group, etc.) to be typically no more that 35-40% of time (when classes are in session) to allow adequate time to fulfill other aspects of job description (unless otherwise modified by Vice Chair).
2. Collaborate closely with TouroCOM Harlem campus Primary Care Faculty.
3. Prepare and deliver teaching sessions (live and video) that meets or exceeds national and Touro standards.
4. Participate in determination and judicious use of budget and other resources.
5. Participate in the recruitment, hiring and training of the adjunct faculty, staff and standardized patients as applicable.
6. Support all activities in the Department of Primary Care,including in the Clinical Systems, Physical Diagnosis, Early Clinical Experience and Medical Simulation courses.
7. Participate in scholarly activity.
8. Fulfill committee assignments as assigned by the Campus Dean.
9. Participate in Admissions Interviews as assigned.
10. Satisfactory completion of Faculty Development for self and adjunct Faculty as measured by the Dean of Preclinical Sciences to include TouroCOM And Touro College Faculty Development and Evaluation Policy.
11. Participate in student advising and provide guidance to the students of Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, as assigned.
12. Help establish and maintain Adjunct Faculty, SP and student schedules as needed.
13. Participate in service to the school and to the community.
14. Participate in other related activities as assigned.
15. Work with Vice-Chair to delegate, train and oversee staff in their responsibilities to the Department.
16. Work with the legal/compliance department as needed to help ensure that proper policies and procedures are followed.
17. Work with the Department of OMM to integrate departments andcurriculum.
18. Develop, maintain, and enhance knowledge on the use and operation of different simulator technologies.
19. Special projects as directed.
20. Faculty and Employee responsibilities as specified in therespective Touro handbooks.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine preferred.
  • Doctor of Medicine required.
  • DO or MD Degree required
  • Board Certification and experience in Primary Care or related specialty (example: family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine or emergency medicine)
  • Experience teaching in the undergraduate medical education setting
  • Experience in medical simulation
  • Experience in administration
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in New York State

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Overall business acumen, ethical decision making and relationship management skills required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication (written and verbal) required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including via emails and remote conferencing modalities

  • Understanding and ability to utilize a variety of computer software and hardware across a variety of platforms (ex: Simulators, iPads, & Windows ).

Certifications/Licensures

  • Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine

Travel

  • Occasional travel to TouroCOM Harlem campus may be required.

Physical Demands

  • Extensive use of computers, task trainers and simulators
  • Extensive time sitting and standing
  • Standing for an extended period of time in a lab setting (when required)
  • Able to lift up to 5 lbs

Maximum Salary

USD $81,947.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $65,557.00/Yr.
