Overview

The Assistant/Associate Professor is a full-time faculty member with all the duties and responsibilities of ranked faculty at the Graduate School of Education, with expertise in Literacy and Teaching SWD. This position will also work closely with the Chair of Alternative Certification Programs and the Office of Clinical Practice to promote top-quality implementation and evaluation of residencies, apprenticeships, and other alternative programs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate courses in the programs offered through residency formats as well as the traditional Master's program for initial teacher certification in both general education and teaching students with disabilities (all grades);
  • Design and adjust curriculum to better serve the needs of specific teacher candidate populations
  • Maintain knowledge of standards and curriculum guidelines by NYSED, NYCPS, AAQEP, and other agencies, with special emphasis on literacy and teaching students with disabilities
  • Supervise candidates during clinical practice in regular and alternative programs, including the residency programs
  • Serve as an instructional leader, facilitating and participating with collaborative faculty teams to supervise and mentor teacher candidates, especially in their clinical experience in alternative programs
  • Support the GSE's Office of Clinical Practice and Office of Alternative Certification programs in building and maintaining clinical partnerships with schools, districts, and other educational agencies for alternative programs and specifically for residency programs
  • Provide management support to the residency programs, in coordination with the Chair
  • Support the Chair with virtual and in-person orientation activities for new cohorts, and support the design and implementation of top-quality PD events for partners
  • Contribute new initiatives, such as induction programs, to better prepare novice teachers as they complete their programs at GSE and obtain initial certification
  • Provide academic advisement to program candidates
  • Maintain a current record of scholarly activities and publications, as well as professional service
  • Serve on Graduate School of Education committees
  • Support and contribute to program level continuous improvement for national/professional accreditation
  • Uphold the missions and values of Touro University and the GSE
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Earned doctorate in Education required.
  • Knowledge of school and community-based programs and experience building partnerships in diverse communities
  • Active involvement in professional organizations
  • Successful grant writing, accreditation reports, and other documentation needed for residency programs

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal/intercultural skills across a wide range of mediums (including social media)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook
  • Proficiency in online learning platforms including Canvas, Adobe Connect, Zoom, and other digital media
  • Expertise in urban education
  • Experience with students with multiple special needs
  • Experience using Canvas and other technology in educational settings

Travel

  • Some travel to Touro University GSE sites New York City including occasional evenings

Maximum Salary

USD $72,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $57,600.00/Yr.
