Overview

Medical assistants are a crucial component to our clinical staff, but their roles can vary in breadth depending on our clinical practice and the amount of work our Clinical Administration, DPM's, physicians, physician assistants, and nurses choose to give them.

Responsibilities

  • Report to clinical coordinator or practice administrator
  • Perform medical assistant procedures under supervision of DPM, physician or physician assistant
  • Assist DPM, physician, and physician assistant in exam rooms
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, record all current medications, and documents all information in patient's chart
  • Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant
  • Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients' medical records prior to their appointment
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, & prepare sterilization as required
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls
  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc) when assigned to this task
  • All other duties as assigned by clinical coordinator or practice administrator
  • The responsibilities of FCNY's medical assistants will also vary based on the day's schedule of patients and the scope of medical treatment in the specific area of concentration FCNY's Administration and the DPM's make the decision about the medical assistant's scope of responsibility, since they are technically working under the license of the FCNY

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma; some college preferred
  • Medical assistant certification from a recognized school
  • Minimum one year experience in dealing with general public in medical office preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must have knowledge of healthcare field and medical specialty
  • Medical terminology
  • Grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Knowledge of EHRs (if applicable) aka EMRSkills
  • Exceptional customer service, phone etiquette, and basic computer skills
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
  • The ability to perform phlebotomy and completed possess a certification requirements in this.

Maximum Salary

USD $39,380.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $31,503.00/Yr.
