Overview

The Student Mental Health & Wellness Counselor will be responsible for providing counseling services to students of Touro College of Dental Medicine onsite at the Albuquerque, New Mexico clinic and is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director of Student Affairs in any student-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides short-term psychotherapy and crisis management to address the mental health needs of a diverse student community
  • Provides a network of mental health referrals in the Albuquerque community to serve our students with long-term treatment needs
  • Develops outreach targeted to at-risk student groups
  • Educates and collaborates with other departments in identifying and referring students of concern
  • Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to identify and respond to student needs, promote mental health, and ensure coordinated care
  • Design, implement, and evaluate wellness and well-being programs for students, promoting a proactive and inclusive approach to mental health and well-being
  • Develops and maintains a system for HIPPA-compliant records of mental health services
  • Provides groups workshops and educational events to teach about wellness and mental illness
  • Develops a method for tracking trends in requests for and obtainment of counseling services
  • Serves on various committees as assigned
  • Provides community education about psycho-educational topics through fliers, bulletin boards, emails, and brochures

  • One hour of weekly individual clinical supervision with a licensed supervisor, focused on deepening clinical insight, enhancing skills, and supporting licensure goals
  • One hour of weekly group supervision, fostering collaboration, shared learning, and a strong sense of professional community
  • Departmental in-services and access to educational events, offered regularly to promote best practices, keep staff informed of emerging trends, and support ongoing professional development

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or equivalent degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in counseling required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of a wide range of clinical mental health diagnosis.
  • Ability to utilize counseling skills as related to: Cognitive mental health, relaxation techniques, relationship counseling, career, counseling and trauma counseling skills.
  • Ability to act in situations as a primary prevention.
  • Ability to promote counseling services.
  • Ability to handle stressful Stress management.
  • Ability to work on various multidisciplinary teams/committees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.

Certifications/Licensures

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) required.
