Overview

The SHS Instructional Designer is responsible for supporting instructors and departments in the School of Health Sciences in addressing complex teaching and learning issues related to instructional design as it relates to traditional, hybrid, and online courses. The Instructional Designer plays a key role as a resource in designing and developing high-quality support resources including training guides, videos, and on-demand options, to address day-to-day faculty needs and produce best-in-class and interactive exercises that support student success. This person will engage in ongoing research to identify the tools and assets to ensure faculty are able to engage in best-practice in their pedagogy. In addition, the Instructional Designer is responsible for data collection and analysis, compliance audits, maintaining certifications for all faculty, and supervising procedures and requirements of faculty aligned in the SHS Technology Policy. The Instructional Designer will function to provide technical support for the Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. This person will be part of the broader Instructional Design team at Touro College and, in that capacity, has dotted line reporting responsibilities to the Vice President of Online Education.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a scholarly approach to teaching and learning or faculty development
  • Assist faculty with the design, creation and delivery of online, hybrid and web-enhanced courses
  • Train and support faculty in the development of online courses
  • Develop and deliver training in effective teaching and instructional design in order to ensure the integration of technology into teaching and learning
  • Work collaboratively with the Department of Online Education, as well as the Office of Instructional and Information Services, to stay abreast of current Touro policies and projects
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Deans, annual goals and objectives
  • Monitor and engage in staying on top of emerging instructional technologies and trends in instructional design through scholarly research and continued professional development
  • Acquire and maintain familiarity with online material related to the health sciences
  • Develop familiarity with new software tools and websites that focus on simulations related to the health sciences
  • Provide periodic updates to the Dean's Office regarding trends in ID
  • Provide feedback regarding faculty ID needs
  • Identify and communicate ID challenges impacting students and faculty
  • Support the strategic agenda of the School of Health Sciences
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Learning Science (Andragogy) or related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience in the field of training and development, education or communications; MEd is preferred;Bachelor's degree required, preferred in an area science or health sciences

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Required
    • Strong skills in building working relationships with faculty and staff within the SHS and, more broadly with those within the Touro College University System
    • Able to lead, and participate in, multiple projects simultaneously in collaboration with others
    • An understanding of the best practice in teaching and learning as well as various technology-based learning tools to enhance teaching and learning
    • Extensive knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies and an in-depth understanding of pedagogy
    • Demonstrated knowledge of software tools used in online education
    • Experience in supporting development of online courses
    • Excellent track record of using a learning management system; Canvas preferred
    • Experience teaching and knowledge of a range of pedagogical approaches
    • Extensive knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and how to apply that to the development of online and classroom courses.
  • Preferred:
    • Demonstrated expertise with e-learning software and content development tools as well as ability to build effective training content
    • Familiarity with new media and new technology solutions (e.g. WeVideo, Yuja Panorama, etc.) for higher education and the health sciences (e.g. iHuman, VisibleBody, EHRgo, etc.)
    • Experience with a variety of operating systems (e.g. OSX, Windows, iPhone/Android Mobile) and web-conferencing tools, such as Zoom and Skype.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Google Apps and Education tools, Adobe, educational video production tools (e.g., Yuja), and cloud computing (e.g., Box)

Maximum Salary

USD $87,495.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary
