Overview

      To advise and counsel students and to provide support and guidance to students enrolled in the college.

 

Responsibilities

  • Advise students in selecting and determining their academic goals
  • Help to link a plan of study with students' career goals
  • Inform students about college requirements including majors, minors, and concentrations
  • Counsel students in choosing their programs semester-by-semester in an orderly and sequential fashion
  • Assist students in registering for courses and making program changes when necessary
  • Consult with academic department chairmen and staff on programming and scheduling matters
  • Inform students about graduation requirements and filing the appropriate forms
  • Monitor students who are on academic probation
  • Evaluate and maintain an organized system of students records
  • Process graduation applications
  • Counsel and guide students with graduate and professional school admissions procedures
  • Prepare and submit appeals to the Committee on Academic Standing
  • Work with potential students to inform them about the college and help them to decide if Touro is the appropriate college for them and which Touro program can best serve their needs
  • Assist in orientation of entering students and helping students to adjust to college life
  • Serve as student case manager for college and community and social services
  • Counsel students with personal, family, and academic problems and provide support during stressful transitions
  • Assist students in seeking help in their everyday lives
  • Inform students about available services at Touro College and make referrals to other offices within the college
  • Advocate for students' rights within the college environment
  • Refer students to appropriate agencies for help
  • Other duties as determined by the Deans and Directors

Qualifications

Degrees

  • Bachelor of Arts required
  • Master's Degree preferred

Skills

  • Ability to work closely with other advisors, clerical staff, Deans, and directors

Travel

  • Sometimes travel is required to other Touro locations within New York City

Maximum Salary

USD $39.00/Hr.

Minimum Salary

USD $31.00/Hr.
